what do I need to purchase before I can start?

To participate in any program with Scotia you must possess an Equestrian Nova Scotia membership (individual insurance) > with the exception of "learn to move" and events<

can I participate in more than one program at a time?

Of course! Participants are encouraged to cross train and explore multiple programs that they have an interest in.

Are there restrictions or requirements on programs?

To participate in any mounted program with Scotia you must be between the ages of 8 and 16 years old and under 150lbs. > with the exception of "rising riders"< 

Horsemanship, training programs and events have their own restrictions - please see the "learn more" tab for details on specific programs.

What level am I?

We follow the Equestrian Canada "LEARNto" program guidelines

Learn to Care - no experience = brand newbies (level 0)

Level 1

Barn Buddies

Knows very basic horse anatomy. 

Knows very basic horse behaviour.

Knows basic barn safety.

Knows very basic horse care.

Level 2

Pony Posse

Knows basic horse anatomy.

Knows general horse behaviour and herd dynamics.

Knows describing features of horses.

Barn Rats

Knows indepth anatomy and signs of health.

Knows advanced conformation.

Knows about feeding and hoof care.
